VACCINATIONS – A boon more, A Curse less

Medical Technology has advanced in the time span of last 100 years and even more so. Since, the time of having Vaidya's (Ayurvedic Doctors) Indian Medical has been developed. The touch of western culture has also given their contribution for the advancement. We try to live our life disease free & vaccinations have contributed much in making it happen. But, despite of the facts of advantages of vaccinations, people still have questions & concerns. So, let's take a road path of Vaccinations & its story.

In 1798, Smallpox was killing hundreds of thousands of people every year. It had become a Life Threatening disease, having no cure. Edward Jenner, who is today known as the creator of world's first vaccinations, saw that Milkmaids who had contracted cowpox (A Less Deadly form of the Diseases) didn't get Smallpox. That's what gave a click idea to Edward Jenner to create a vaccination for others fighting for Smallpox. After years of research, analysis & testing, Edward Jenner created the vaccination for Smallpox, which saved many lives.

Vaccines are like training exercise for your body. They use dead or damaged viruses to provoke an immune response, without having to get sick. From there, your body has time to develop the proper and toadies and form immunity. Since their implementation, diseases like Smallpox, Polio, Measles, and Mumps & Rubella have been eradicated. But, as the saying goes," Change is Inevitable", the evolutions of these diseases is also inevitable. As you become immune to invaders, the invaders adapt to try to get round your immunity. Each year scientists have to try to predict which flu strain will be the big one to vaccinate against.

Many people say that vaccinations cause Autism (A disease, unable to socialize). There was also, a paper name "The Lancet" was published which claimed a link between autism & measles, mumps & rubella vaccine (MMR). However after a lengthy investigation it was discovered the author, "Andrew Wakefield", had fudged the data with many other shady things. He was punished in every legal possible way. By the time Wakefield's misconduct ad came to light, with his punishments, the damage was already done. Now he is held up as a martyr by anti-vaccine proponents. Scientists are not sure the real reason behind the autism, which is now understood to be a spectrum of developmental disorders, but none of them suspect vaccines.

People are afraid of what they do not understand. A human nature no one can run off. So a common tactic used by anti-vaccine proponents is to just list ingredients and let fear do the rest. For E.g. Initially, a preservative called thimerosal was attacked as the cause of autism. It is an antifungal agent used to preserve multi-dose vitals of vaccine. It also happens to have a mercury atom in it. We are taught that mercury is bad, but its' actually kind of complicated.   We forget that something we eat every day in every meal i.e. Sodium Chloride a.k.a. Salt, is made of two of the most volatile and deadly elements on earth. The mercury in thimerosal is ethyl mercury, which gets flushed out of the body. Unlike its brother, Methyl Mercury! Which is the bad mercury. In a well-meaning but ultimately harmful effort to appease the misinformed mobs, the CDC (Centers for Diseases Control and Preventions) stopped using thimerosal in vaccines, even after an investigation found no link between it & autism. The ones who truly suffer are people in developing nations who now have to pay more money to buy & maintain single-dose vitals of needed vaccines.

Another chemistry fail is the calling out of hydrochloride Acid in vaccines. But, if we remember back to our PH Scale, acids can be added to an alkaline solution to make it PH neutral. Which exactly what they are doing. People do not understand that the difference between good and bad is about dosage. Even drinking too much water will kill you. For e.g. in 2007, a woman died after drinking 6 liters of water in 3 hours. The amount of scary sounding chemicals in a vaccine is well within FDA approved guidelines. Take formaldehyde, which is a natural metabolic byproduct. You've produced more in your body while reading this article than you will ever get from a vaccine.

Now you must be asking yourself that if they are so wrong, why are still people who are against vaccines? Ironically, the anti-vaccination movement is a lot like the pathogens that vaccines protect us against. Their fear campaign is an ongoing arms race against facts. They simply change their topic to something else.

But, we even cannot ignore them because an important benefit of vaccination is an effect called Herd Immunity. If enough people are vaccinated against a disease (Usually 83%-85%), it has trouble spreading. This protects people who are not vaccinated, either because they are too young or have an allergy or other underlying medical condition. In herd immunity, the vaccinated protect the un-vaccinated. As more and more people opt out of vaccinating, the risk of outbreaks increases.

But, just like "every coin has 2 sides", even vaccinations have side-effects. The benefit/risk ratio is one of the highest concern of any medical intervention out there. But, like any medical procedure, they carry some risks. Most of them are very mild for e.g.  Polio Vaccinations side effects are redness, headache, Tiredness, Muscle or joint pain, Fever, or nausea in some cases. The more serious reactions are incredibly rare, like 1 in a million. But people are sometimes bad in assessing risks. They drive without a seat belt out of fear that it will break their collarbone in an accident.

Like diseases, fear and misinformation spread easily those who aren't vaccinated against them. Help contribute to herd immunity by educating your community today!

Tips to avoid Risk of a Heart Attack or Stroke

    http://healthcaremobileapplication.blogspot.in/2016/03/tips-to-avoid-risk-of-a-heart-attack-or-stroke.html
  • Exercise a Little Every Day
  • Set a Reasonable Goal for Weight Loss
  • Take Your Heart Medicine
  • Eat Well and Healthy
  • Eat a Little Chocolate preferably dark chocolate
  • Don't Smoke
  • Pay Attention to Your Symptoms
  • Exercise a Little Each Day
Enough physical activity lowers your chances of getting a heart attack by 30% to 50%. Target for 30 minutes of exercise that gets your heart pumping at least 5 days a week. Brisk walking or swimming are some good choices. On the other 2 days, do strength training, like lifting weights.

If you have got a tight schedule, break your exercise routine into small parts. Try a 15 to 20 minutes' walk in the morning and another before lunch.

  • Set a Reasonable Goal for Weight Loss
If you're overweight or heavy, you do not have to get thin to reduce your risk for a heart attack or stroke. If you lose 5% to 10% of your weight, you'll improve your cholesterol numbers and lower your blood pressure and blood sugar levels.
    http://healthcaremobileapplication.blogspot.in/2016/03/tips-to-avoid-risk-of-a-heart-attack-or-stroke.html
  • Take Your Heart Medicine
It sounds like a no-brainer, but do not skip your meds. A lot of people don't take their medications the way their doctor told them to. Figure out what keeps you from taking your medicine -- such as side effects, cost, or forgetfulness - and ask your doctor for help and suggestions.
  • Eat Well
If you stick to a healthy diet you could lower your odds of getting heart disease by 25%. Fill your plate with different kinds of fruits, veggies, whole grains, fish, and slim meats. Stay away from processed, over processed or prepared foods that often are high in salt and filled with preservatives.
  • Eat a Little Chocolate
Several studies show that people who eat chocolate more than once a week lower their risk of heart disease by almost 40% and stroke by about 30%. Go for dark chocolate, and make sure the ingredients are at least 70% cacao. It's filled with nutrients that help protect your ticker.

Keep your portions small so you don't gain weight and work your heart harder.

  • Don't Smoke
Smoking dramatically raises your risk of heart attacks and strokes, so talk to your doctor about how to quit. You'll also be doing your friends and family a favor, since secondhand smoke can also lead to heart disease.
  • Pay Attention to Your Symptoms
Don't just hope they'll go away. See your doctor if you feel anything unusual, like shortness of breath, changes in your heart rhythm, or extreme tiredness. Also watch for pain in your jaw or back, nausea or vomiting, sweating, or flu-like symptoms.

Are You Suffering from hypertension? Cardamom can help you

https://www.medbox.mobi
"Are you worried about your escalating blood pressure? Add some cardamom to your tea!"
Hypertension, also known as high blood pressure, is a long term medical condition in which the blood pressure in the arteries is persistently elevated and this can easily be controlled with a few changes to your lifestyle and dietary habits. Apart from prescribing medicines for the condition, doctors suggest living a more active life, exercising more and eating right. After all, hypertension is a gateway to other heart diseases and makes you prone to atherosclerosis and heart attacks.

Dietary changes usually involve reducing your salt intake by cutting down junk food and sticking to home-cooked, low-salt meals.

These changes not only help in lowering or controlling your blood pressure levels but they make you healthier by helping you lose a little bit of body weight.

With cutting down salt intake, you can also include certain natural remedies that assist in reducing your blood pressure levels and one such natural remedy is cardamom.

It is a widely used condiment worldwide and specially in the Indian kitchen and is known for its sweet taste and aroma. It is used to flavor sweets, to enhance the richness of certain curries and in different types of rice preparations, etc. But its benefits are not just limited to its flavor. Apart from being an excellent digestive aid, it also helps in controlling blood pressure levels. It is rich in certain antioxidants that help in lowering the blood pressure. If you are suffering from stage 1 hypertension than Cardamom is very effective. A study published in the Indian Journal of Biochemistry and Biophysics says that cardamom can help in reducing systolic, diastolic and mean blood pressure levels.

How to use cardamom?

Hypertension also involves avoiding sugar-rich and high cholesterol foods so it is suggested to cut sweets but add cardamom to other recipes like tea, soup etc.

So the simplest way to consume cardamom in your diet regularly is to add a pinch a cardamom powder to your cup of tea. Alternatively, you can also chew a pod of cardamom after your meals, not only does it help you control hypertension, it is an

excellent digestive and a mouth freshener too.

Doctors say kidney failures have doubled in last 15 years in India

http://healthcaremobileapplication.blogspot.com/2016/03/kidney-failures-have-doubled-in-last-15-years-in-india.html

The number of Indians suffering from kidney failures has doubled in the last 15 years with a rise of 10 % in the number of citizens undergoing dialysis due to chronic kidney diseases (CKD), health experts have said.
Health experts said that the number of Indians suffering from kidney failures has doubled in the last 15 years with a rise of 10 percent in the number of citizens undergoing dialysis due to Chronic Kidney Diseases (CKD). According to health experts, several Indian population-based studies in the past estimated the incidence of End-Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD) is 150-230 per million and about 220,000-275,000 new patients need Renal Replacement Therapy (RRT) every year. 'It is estimated that approximately 75,000 patients are on dialysis which is growing at the rate of 10-20 percent annually. The question is whether India has the resources and skill to handle this ever-increasing population of ESKD in India,' said Dr Rajesh Kumar, consultant nephrologist at Mumbai-based SRV Hospital.

Stating that the exact burden of chronic kidney diseases in India is still undefined, the approximate prevalence of CKD is 800 per million populations (PMP). According to the experts, one percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in India is spent on the health sector while the figure in China is three percent and 8.3 percent in the US. Earlier figures have shown that 65 percent diagnosed patients do not receive dialysis and medical treatment on time. 'Looking at these facts, it is a challenge to cope up with an ever-increasing ESKD population who require Renal Replacement therapy (RRT) in the form of Hemodialysis, Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis or Kidney Transplantation. Hence a sincere and serious attempt is necessary to bring down the cost of dialysis treatment,' Dr Kumar told IANS. (Read: 8 tests for checking if your kidneys are functioning fine)

According to Dr Pradeep Gadge, a dialectologist with Seven Hills and Breach Candy Hospitals in Mumbai, diabetes is considered as the most common causes for kidney failures and it is estimated that over one million patients worldwide are alive on dialysis. 'With this exponential increase in diabetic patients in India, the number of patients with kidney ailments is likely to rise high,' he noted, adding that every year, an estimated 3.5-4 lakh new cases are likely to be diagnosed with kidney ailments. (Read: World Kidney Day: Don't ignore your child's kidneys)

'Diabetes and blood pressure are most common cause of kidney disease in adults but in children, Chronic glomerulonephritis and Recurrent UTI (Reflux) are the most important causes apart from congenital anomalies of urinary system,' Dr Gadge said. Throwing light on the facilities for dialysis, Dr M.M. Bahadur, nephrologist at Wockhardt Hospital, said: 'Two lakh patients in a year reach the CAPD (Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis) stage 5 where they need dialysis of which less than 10 percent actually get treated due to non-availability of facility, cost factor and proximity.

Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis means dialysis throughout the day, at home or at work. During CAPD, a bag of dialysis fluid is drained into the peritoneal cavity through a Tenckhoff Catheter. 'With only 300-400 dialysis centres available in India and with 1,500 nephrologist in metro cities who treat kidney patients, more than 60 percent of the patients do not receive medical attention on time. Only four percent of the patients get donors,' noted Dr Bahadur. According to the health ministry, 2,000 new dialysis centres will be set up at district-level hospitals in the country within the next two years to tackle the problem.

Most of Energy Drinks are Harmful for Children

http://healthcaremobileapplication.blogspot.com/2016/03/most-of-energy-drinks-are-harmful-for.html
Most of the energy drinks contain too much caffeine and that might be harmful to children. This finding is based on the research of University of Miami.

Several energy drinks contain an excessive amount of alkaloid which is very harmful to youngsters and this is shown in the study of journal pediatric medicine at University of Miami. Many of the energy drinks reviewed contain three times the caffeine of a cola and some of which have five times more, said the study.

The study showed that caffeine in the drinks can exacerbate cardiac conditions, especially in children with eating disorders, and interfere with calcium absorption and bone mineralization in young adolescents.

Energy drinks produce extra calories which can contribute to diabetes, high body mass index and dental problems, according to the study. Many of the energy drinks reviewed contain 3 times the alkaloid of a cola and a few of that have 5 times additional, same the study.

Also, energy drinks contain additional ingredients which may boost caffeine levels, said the study. The study also found that many children and young adults in the United States have tried energy drinks, and some consume them heavily. A survey of college students reported that 51 percent regularly consumed one or more of the drinks per month, and a majority of those students drank them several times a week.

Insufficient sleep and a desire for more energy were cited as reasons for such consumption, said the study.

The drinks are unregulated in the United States, and the number of overdoses of caffeine from drinking those remains unknown, the study said. But in Germany, Ireland and New Zealand, officials have reported cases of liver damage, kidney failure, seizures, confusion and arrhythmias associated with energy drink use, according to the study.
